Most people have questions in their minds even after having a first child. Why do some women not conceive a second time? But it is true that after having the first child, some women have difficulty conceiving for the second time. There may be numerous reasons behind it. In this article, we are going to discuss secondary infertility.

Most women become mothers the first time but few of them find it difficult to conceive in the second time. Secondary infertility is the medical term for this condition. Secondary sterility refers to a state where a woman has an inability to get pregnant. Or to complete the full term of pregnancy for the second time. This means that if a woman is unable to conceive again after one or more years of unprotected intercourse, or if she conceives but is unable to complete a full pregnancy cycle of 9 months and miscarries, she is suffering from secondary infertility. Infertility is classified. into two types.

• Primary Infertility
• Secondary Infertility

Primary Infertility

Primary infertility is defined as a woman’s inability to become pregnant despite regular unprotected sexual contact. While secondary infertility indicates the difficulty for a woman in conceiving for the second time. Both, primary and secondary infertility have the same causes. Listed below are some essential causes of infertility, which are often related to secondary sterility.

1. Ovulation disorder is one of the most common causes of sterility with which many women are struggling. In such cases, eggs do not pass out of the ovaries, making it difficult for couples to become parents for the second time. It’s also referred to as ovulation failure.

2. The limitations of eggs in women

The limitations of eggs in women are innate, and they are unable to make new eggs after delivery for the first time. According to a study, after 40 years of age, the number of eggs remains very low in the ovary and this quantity has a high risk of chromosomal problems without good-quality eggs. It is difficult to conceive.

3. Tube blockage is an important cause of infertility in women.

The fallopian tube has a vital role in conception as it transfers the egg from the ovary to the uterus. There is the fertilization of eggs and sperm in this, but the fertilization procedure is halted due to tube blockage.

4. Endometriosis, characterized by the presence of cells outside the uterus, may be the cause of secondary infertility. Endometrial tissue that develops outside of the uterus complicates pregnancy and harms the pelvic organs.

5. Age matters in fertility. It is said that it’s simply a number and can be counted however it is concerned. The fertility of a woman is high at the age of 20, but it starts to decrease along with the quality and quantity of eggs after the age of 35 years.

6. Pregnancy problems may include cesarean delivery and the D&C process.

7. It may be difficult to become a mother for the second time for other reasons, such as:

Polycystic ovary syndrome, Breastfeeding, Obesity, Autoimmune disorder, Uterine fibroids, Pelvic inflammatory disease, Abnormal uterine shape, Polyps and infection. These may affect the fertility of a woman too.

In my opinion, if couples are unable to conceive even after trying for 8-12 months of unprotected sex then they may seek a fertility specialist. Once the specialist knows about the fertility problem of both partners then he may ask you to do certain tests such as an ovulation test, blood test, x-ray of fallopian tubes, pelvic exams, transvaginal ultrasound etc. to have a look at the uterus and cervix to check the hormonal level and as a result, come out from tests, the specialist may then suggest the best possible treatment to become a parent for the second time.
